La fiche de la tomate Mortgage Lifter sur Tomodori.com

Citation monticellostore :
In Thomas Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia, written in 1781, he lists tomatoes as produce common to Virginia kitchen gardens. Jefferson grew his tomatoes at Monticello in 1809 - the first summer of his retirement - and grew them until his death.
The Mortgage Lifter tomato was developed in the early 1930's in Logan, West Virginia by a radiator repairman, M.C. "Radiator Charlie" Byles. Without any experience in breeding, he made a successful cross of four of the largest tomatoes he could find - German Johnson, Beefsteak, an Italian variety, and an English variety.

:uieyrh

Un début d'explication ?

MORTAGE LIFTER RED : A classic old-time, heirloom tomato. A red strain of the Radiator Charlie's Mortgage Lifter that has almost become one of America's favorites. Produce large, indeterminate, regular-leaf, tomato plants produce good crops of 1-2 pound, slightly ribbed, meaty, red, beefsteak tomatoes with the perfectly rich, sweet, bold, old-fashioned tomato flavors. An ideal sandwich tomato. Also a good market tomato due to it's taste and beauty.

Craonne,
The original tomato is called "Radiator Charlie's Mortgage Lifter". It is a pink beefsteak. Later, there was found a RED sport of it. That is called Mortgage Lifter Red.

It is very difficult to tell from a photograph. I only know to look at the skin. If it is clear, then it is a pink. If it is yellow, then it is a red. Sometimes this is the only way to know. Peel away the epidermis (épiderme) and see if it is clear or yellow.
I hope you understand.
